TMC Motorsports International is the creation of Mr. Jim Matthews.

Jim’s background in motorsports began back in the 1960’s with the purchase of his first sports car, a 1965 Corvette 396 cid V-8 Coupe. Its color scheme was Nassau Blue exterior with White Leather interior, and its exterior configuration was with side pipes and Knock off wheels.

Jim attended local drag strips in Indiana while in High School and then attended the 1966 NASCAR races in Charlotte, NC. and the Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1967.

Living in Indiana, Jim, starting in the early 1960’s and through into the 1990’s, has gone to the Indianapolis 500 Race for Qualification Day every year.

The incredible technical and fast moving scenes of the race track gave rise to an interest in a way to retain the memory of his experiences on the track, in the pits and from the stands. That interest was fulfilled in photography, one, that remains to this day.

So it was in 1968 that Jim bought his first professional camera, a 35 mm Minolta model SRT 101. That camera attended every race that Jim attended and gave rise to a photography collection that will soon be available on TMCMotorsportsIntl.com for viewing and purchase. The Photo Collection covers the Races as detailed in the following history.

Jim’s interest in racing lead him to join the SCCA Club, South Bend Region, in 1967.He raced in the local South Bend Region Club events which lead to his becoming a SCCA Technical Inspector for the local races. Within one year in 1968, Jim became a National Technical Inspector for the SCCA a title he retained until 1974. As Technical Inspector Jim was responsible for inspecting cars entered in the SCCA Race Events for safety and compliance to the SCCA Rules.

As a SCCA Technical Inspector in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Jim attended the following annual Race Events:

In 1968 Jim was a National Technical Inspector for the SCCA at the following National Championship races:

  • Riverside International Raceway    Riverside, California 1968
  • Daytona International                  Daytona Beach, Florida 1969

In the 1970’s and into the late 1980’s Jim attended almost all SCCA race events at:

  • Road America Elkhart Lake Wisconsin
  • Mid-Ohio Lexington,Ohio

From the early 1980’s to the last one in 1988, Jim went to the U.S. Formula 1 races at Detroit, MI. The Formula 1 race then moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1989 where he attended in 1990 and 1991. The year 1991 was the last year for the race in the U.S.A. until the year 2000.

When the U.S. Formula 1 race returned to Indianapolis, IN in the year 2000, Jim attended them until 2005.

With the Vintage / Historic Automobile Racing revival in the late 70’s, Jim attended the Monterey CA. Historics at Laguna Seca Raceway and Pebble Beach Concourse from the late 70’s through the 90’s.

When the Vintage Races started in 1981 at Road America Elkhart Lake Wisconsin, Jim was there and has attended every year since.

In 1998 Jim found a new emerging professional endurance sports car racing organization the American LeMans Series. Jim attended the first Petit LeMans in 1998 held at Brazelton, Ga and the next year in 1999, he attended the 12 Hours of Sebring inaugural race of the American LeMans Series, at Sebring Florida.

Since that inaugural event in 1999, Jim has participated in all the ALMS races at Sebring and Petit LeMans along with the races at Road America, Mid-Ohio and Detroit Belle Isle.

In addition to Jim’s Motorsports history, his Technical Engineering expertize is equally significant. Jim Matthews has a background as an innovative Design Engineer specializing in mechanical equipment, industrial design and the design and fabrication of concept automobiles.

The Photo Collection is extensive and the shots reflect the background of some one who is more then just a photographer. Jim Matthew‘s 40 years and more of background as a race car driver, SCCA National Technical Inspector, race fan and designer have produced a selection of photographs that are unlike most any photos from those times.
